What HAS happened to my country

Here we go again. Every day we read about another murder or stabbing, ususally drug related and, here is the lastest one today.

A 19 year old girl, who lived in a hostel (so where were her parents? - who no doubt will be in line "compo") stabbed to death in the grounds of a stately home.
10 years ago, this would have been headline news but, now, as it is almost a daily occurance, it hardly makes the papers. 19 years old - stop and think about what you were doing in 1990 - she was being born - and now she is dead. Makes me think, I don't know about anyone else. 1990 was 10 minutes ago for most people of my age but, for this girl, it was enough time to be born, grow up, go wrong and get murdered. If her Mum was (as is likely) in her teens, it means that she is still only in her early 30s - so where was she when her daughter was being stabbed to death? Claiming more benefit? Our of her head on drugs? Dead herself? - who knows.

How can this be happening in a country that, in my lifetime, has seen the growth of Butlins, fun family holidays and a civil "code" that allowed "bobbies on the beat" and a feeling of "belonging". When I was young, people "did" drugs - and some died as a result - ususally by accident. They never dies because their illegal immigrant "dealer" has been "dissed" and "had to make an exampe of them" - just didn't happen.

As a country (I don't mean the government - I mean US) have "taken our eye off the ball" and allowed this "sub culture" not only to grow, but to take over. We have become too wrapped up in material possesions and have lost our way when it comes to the next generation and how we a civilised society should live. "Kids", in a gang on the street corner, have become a threat to us because we know that, if we approach them, then they "might" attack us and, if we call the police, we are more likely to be arrested than they are. They know it - and so do we and, for reasons that are not apparent to me, we accept this as the "norm" - why?? Has it ever been "normal" in the history of our species to simply dismiss the next generation as if they were some kind of "drain" on resources? Off-course not - yet that, for some reason, is what we are doing - all of us. Naturally, we individually hide behind "statistics" and crime figures and don't dare face these "out of control" youths. We convince ourselves that they are "bad" (because that is what we are TOLD). We don't even see them as belonging to OUR species and, despite the fact that we have let them down more than any other generation in the history of our species, and, in some odd way, decide it is their fault - not ours. If they die as drug addicts then "it's all these kind of people deserve".

Well - sorry guys. Having worked with many of these "lost" people, I can tell you that they are as bright, engaging and intelligent as you or me. They just look at what life has to offer them, decide that society has decided to ignore them and decide (rightly in my opinion) that, as society does not want them, then society can stuff itself up it's collective arses. They will never get a job - they don't have the social skills to hold one down. They will never have their own house or family (if they do try, then the council will take their kids off them) and put them out on the street. Being willing to try and live like a family is not enough - they must PROVE it.

We are to blame. We have let then down, We have allowed this police state to marginalise many parts of society - yet, most of us sit, fqt, dumb and happy in our increasingly energy efficient boxes, believing that it is someone else's problem.

Try telling that to this poor 19 years old that died last night, in terror - probably for "dissing" her immigrant drug dealer, She should have been studying for her degree or, if not, working at Tesco and enjoying life. Instead, because WE have failed to take any notice of what has been happening for the last 30 years, she is now lying in a morgue somewhere and her killer will probably never be caught - as the police as too busy protecting parliament from anyone to be bothered with what has become a "normal quiet night".

Am I the only one who feels a huge debt of guilt to these kids?
Am I the only one who believes that my main reason for being on this planet is not to have as many plasma TVs as possible but to ensure the continuation of my species and my country.

What HAS happened to my country? What has happened to the people in it? They have been conned, conditioned and ruined by continual propaganda, designed to make them think that human life is cheap and expendable.

There is a 19 year old girl dead right now - because - we don't care.
